Dallas Area Senior Center: A Family's Guide to Programs & Services in Dallas, Oregon

A plain-spoken look at what's known — and what's still worth a phone call — about the Dallas Area Senior Center, plus practical guidance on staying active in your 50s, 60s, and beyond.

The Dallas Area Senior Center is a genuinely welcoming spot for older adults in Polk County — but it's also one where a lot of practical details (building hours, exact class times) simply aren't published anywhere online. Rather than guess, we're laying out exactly what's confirmed and what isn't, styled here as a community record: some fields are on file, others say "call to confirm." That's a deliberate choice, not a shortcut — we'd rather tell you plainly than make something up.

A Newer Building With an Open-Door Policy

The center's current home is a two-story, 4,171-square-foot building at 817 SW Church Street — a $2.2 million project built by Wildish Building Co. for the City of Dallas, with a multipurpose room, kitchen, office space, an art hallway, a passenger elevator, and a 16-car parking lot. (Note: some older directory listings still show a previous address, 955 SE Jefferson St — if you're working from an old printout or bookmark, use the Church Street address instead.)

Dallas Area Seniors runs a genuinely open-door model: bingo nights and most events are explicitly open to everyone, member or not. There is a separate optional membership program with its own sign-up form, but it isn't a gate to participate in the center's public events — a friendlier setup than many senior centers.

🎲 Community Bingo Night

Every 2nd & 4th Friday of the month — dinner at 5:00 PM, bingo at 6:00 PM. Must be 18+ to play. Call ahead to confirm the current schedule and menu.

Call to Confirm Details

What's Happening at the Center

Per the center's own website, activities fall into a few broad categories rather than a fixed weekly grid:

Games & Cards

  • Bridge, pinochle, cribbage, mahjongg, bingo, board games

Creative & Social

  • Art workshops, jigsaw puzzles, book club, lunches and brunches, holiday dinners

Wellness & Support

  • Low-impact fitness classes
  • "Healthy Soul" classes, addressing physical, emotional, and mental health together
  • Caregivers support group
  • Listening Ear program

None of these come with published weekly times — the center's site lists what's offered without a fixed schedule grid, so confirming a specific day and time by phone is genuinely the only reliable way to plan a visit right now.

Why We Say "Call to Confirm"

This page only includes information we could verify directly from the Dallas Area Senior Center's own official channels — mainly dallasareaseniors.org. Where a detail like building hours or a specific class time isn't published anywhere we could find, we say "call to confirm" instead of filling in a guess. A wrong time we made up would send you to the center at the wrong hour — the center's own staff at (503) 623-8554 can give you a same-day answer faster than any website could.

5 Simple Ways to Get Started

Since so much of the Dallas Area Senior Center's calendar lives off-line, here's how we'd suggest making first contact — general guidance we share with patients at HWY Physical Therapy who are looking to build a more active, connected routine.

  1. Start with a phone call, not a drop-in. Call (503) 623-8554 first to ask what's happening that week — it saves a wasted trip and gets you a real person's read on the current schedule.
  2. Try Bingo Night first. The 2nd/4th Friday bingo night is explicitly open to everyone with no membership required — a low-pressure way to see the space and meet people.
  3. Ask about the Listening Ear program if you're a caregiver. It's a genuinely uncommon offering worth knowing about even if you don't need it yet.
  4. Bring a friend to a card game. Bridge, pinochle, cribbage, and mahjongg are all listed activities — social games are an easy, low-barrier entry point.
  5. Ask about the low-impact fitness class specifically. "Low-impact" is worth confirming means what you need it to mean — pacing and intensity can vary center to center.

This is general educational information, not a substitute for individualized medical, physical therapy, or mental health advice. Anyone with a specific concern should consult their physician, physical therapist, or a licensed counselor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a member to attend bingo or events?

No. The center's own site is explicit that events and bingo are open to everyone, member or not.

What does membership cost, then?

There's a separate optional membership program with its own sign-up form, but the current cost isn't published — call (503) 623-8554 to ask.

What are the building's hours?

Not published anywhere we could find. Some older directories list city-wide "8am–12pm, 1–5pm" hours, but that figure comes from Dallas's generic city-hall contact page, not the senior center specifically — treat it as unconfirmed and call ahead.

Is 817 SW Church St the current address?

Yes — that's the address listed on the center's own official site as of July 2026. Older listings sometimes show 955 SE Jefferson St; if you're using an old source, the Church Street address is the one to trust.

Is this the center's official website?

No. This page is an independent community resource maintained by HWY Physical Therapy — see the About section below. For the center's own official information, visit dallasareaseniors.org directly.
